Velour 3 At Red Dog tonight!

A Vancouver-based band on a cross-Canada tour will be at The new Red Dog tonight starting at 9 p.m.

Flavio Monopoli, drummer for Velour 3, said the band left Vancouver July 3 and have already played in Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, Banff, Winnipeg, Windsor and Toronto. After the band leaves Peterborough, it will go to Kingston, and Montreal before returning west via North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary and Vancouver. The band hopes to be back in Vancouver Aug. 3, but it will play 11 concerts in the next 12 nights.

Monopoli said band members Paul Marcotte on guitar and Jonathan Schubert on bass met while playing in another band in Vancouver, but none of them are from Vancouver. They have been on their own for a year and a half.  "We play pop music, melodic pop with harmonies," said Monopoli. "We all sing."

They released a CD, self titled, in October and it reached independent #1 status for nearly a month. The band's music video from the single Not The One is getting airplay on MuchMusic.  The band also did an "indie spotlight walk on" on MuchMusic recently. - Staff Reporter, Peterborough Examiner, 18 July 1997.
